Highlands Museum & Discovery Center

The Highlands Museum & Discovery Center (1620 Winchester Ave., 606/329-8888, www.highlandsmuseum.com, 10am-4pm Wed.-Fri., 10am-6pm Sat., $6.50 adults, $5 seniors and youth 2-18) has three distinct sections, with exhibits that will appeal to all ages. The History and Heritage section focuses on history with a local angle. Exhibits touch on archaeology and Native American use of the area, war, and education and medicine in past centuries. A second area is dedicated to the musical history of the region, introducing some of the most well-known stars from along the Country Music Highway, with a special focus on the Judd and Cyrus families. Visitors are invited to show off their own musical talents in the karaoke corner. The third part of the museum, the Discovery Center, is tailored to the younger crowd, with hands-on activities that allow them to fly a plane at a simulation station, navigate a towboat, climb around a tree house, crawl into a cave, and play with games, puzzles, and puppets.
